Reports To:                         EHS Manager

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:     None

 

Job Purpose:

The EHS Specialist ensures the compliance with health, safety and environmental rules and regulations as they pertain to the plant operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensures compliance with health, safety and environmental rules and regulations
  • Regulatory permit submittals and renewals
  • Works as a liaison between plant operations and regulatory agencies
  • Assists EHS manager to maintain compliance with regulatory reporting requirements for local, regional, state, federal and corporate entities
  • Assists EHS manager as Emergency Response coordinator and plant security (ICS Training a plus)
  • Assists EHS manager in Internal and external incident reports for spills, accidents, near misses, etc.
  • Assists EHS manager in coordinating and conducting preventative maintenance inspection program and safety compliance audits
  • Maintains documentation of routine inspections of health, safety and environmental equipment
  • Assists EHS manager with the California Business Plan, the Hazardous Waste Management Program, APCD Fugitive Emissions Program and other regulatory programs as required
  • Management of Change process documentation and control
  • Oversees and coordinates chemical and waste inventory, documentation, and disposal
  • Maintain and update company Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Conducts and documents new employee/contractor safety orientations
  • Assists with Contractor Management
  • Special projects coordinator working closely with maintenance and management
  • Master Administrator and Trainer for Compliance Services Database (Regulatory Compliance, management of change, safety training, and incident reporting)
  • Oversee the administration of radios and other electronic devices as required
  • Assist in the procurement of equipment, materials, supplies and services in support of engineering and maintenance for the operation of the plant
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Basic Requirements

  • BS Degree in Occupational, Health and Safety Discipline preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Regulatory experience desirable
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental laws and regulations

Experience and Job Skills

  • Ability to communicate accurately and understandably in written and verbal form
  • Computer skills including competency with databases, spreadsheets, word processors, presentations tools or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Experience in petroleum /chemical industries preferred
  • Capacity to establish and maintain good working relations with external stakeholders
