Dr. Scott Sportsman, Manager, Engineering and Quality Assurance
Dr. Sportsman received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 2002. He subsequently worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, focusing on performing difficult liquid-phase separations through the hybridization of innovative approaches and conventional processes, such as membranes and advanced centrifugal separators used in nuclear separations processes.
At Crimson Renewable Energy, Dr. Sportsman is applying his separations expertise to the understanding and development of the biodiesel production process through the optimization of the transesterification reaction and product separation, as well as the requisite separations in the mono-alkyl ester/water wash and glycerin/alcohol/water separations. Dr. Sportsman also brings nearly 20 years of analytical laboratory experience to Crimson. This expertise is being applied to establish comprehensive laboratory and quality control protocols that ensure Crimson's biofuels meet or exceed industry standards for fuel quality, storage and handling.
